According to auction records an au58 coin sells for about $600. An Au details coin for about $250.

Earle can you elaborate on why you think this half is fake? What your arrow is pointing at is unclear.

The second set of images are slightly rotated. When I copied the obverse one and oriented normally, I see nothing wrong.

Definitely different design details, hair different as well.
Need some good detailed die information for all other varieties, to judge fake or not.

From pictures alone, looks OK.

AU55 cleaned.

I am looking at the shape of the head and the very large eye on the half on the left.

I guess I will do an overlay and post it.

Point well taken, the eye does look somewhat different in the comparative pics.

Keep in mind the 2x2 plastic might be distorting the details.

Unfortunately the only pic of an authenticated one was smaller than the OPs pic. I had to zoom on both anyway to make the following graphic. Note the white is not emphasized for any reason - its just how the program I was using made it.

I noted the shoulder strap on the OP's coin is a lot wider than the one on a legit one, but the pic got lost in cyberspace!

Zoom recommended.
