Sometimes there's lettering on the edge, telling you the composition (and possibly more).

i called the national collectors mint and they said they can not give me any information from the serial number because they can not be sure it is there coin because I did not buy it from them. they told me to have it professionally tested. anyone know a safe way to test without hurting the coin?

373 grams: That is one troy pound. 12 troy ounces in a troy pound.
It can be tested without damage. There is a machine that my LCS shop has that does it.

If it doesn't show a finenes percentage, such as .999, the chance it's silver is ZERO.
Return it quickly, if you can.

bought it for 75.00 which I thought was fantastic if it was real silver.
