i recent purchased a 1922 huge Peace dollar round. it came in a box from the national collectors mint. the back of the round says one pound. it has a serial number on the side of the round. is this made of .999 silver? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes there's lettering on the edge, telling you the composition (and possibly more).

i called the national collectors mint and they said they can not give me any information from the serial number because they can not be sure it is there coin because I did not buy it from them. they told me to have it professionally tested. anyone know a safe way to test without hurting the coin?

the side of the only has this number printed on it. 01274.

373 grams: That is one troy pound. 12 troy ounces in a troy pound.

It can be tested without damage. There is a machine that my LCS shop has that does it.

If it doesn't show a finenes percentage, such as .999, the chance it's silver is ZERO.

Return it quickly, if you can.

shame it is really a beautiful round. and the weight was right for a silver troy pound coin. wish it was real. thank you everyone for your comments.

bought it for 75.00 which I thought was fantastic if it was real silver.
