I have this 1969 s penny that has some doubling. It is in the word liberty and the word in. Sorry about the pic quality. I get good pics on my phone but this optimizer thing make all my pics looks blurry. Is a differnt way to post good pics or is there a different website that will let me post good pictures?

Not a doubled die. Just Machine Doubling.

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

Interesting. What is the basis for the two of you to express your opinions as fact when these pictures are obviously a really bad representation of the OP'S coin? Just curious.

NewGuy, better pics. Maybe in day light but not directly in sunlight.

They've been collecting for (probably) several decades and (probably) have seen upwards thousands of MD examples both in the wild and on this forum. They know what they're talking about.

A pointer when taking pictures. Use a dark background. The camera will then focus better on the coin. Light colored backgrounds mess with the cameras ability to focus on the coin.

Thank you the tips on taking pictures and my posting titles. I will definitely try the things you want to do when taking pictures. I bought a macro lens for my phone so hopefully I can start post better quality pictures.

I've seen thousands of coins with Machine Doubling and doubled dies. Both types of doubling look different. The 1969-S DDO in particular has a very distinct look. The OP's coin is not a DDO.

There are multiple threads every day on the CCF that discuss this very subject - every day! Experienced collectors can spot this sort of condition at one glance, and you no doubt will be able to as well some day.

SilverDollar, not sure who to address, you or your representative coinboy? Either way, I think it's pretty amazing that you've actually held thousands of doubled die coins. Congrats, not a small undertaking, I'm sure. Now, I've got more class than to bring up the fact that you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, called out my 83 P LMC DDR as Machine Doubling. I would think that for someone that has decades of observation and thousands of DD's and MD's in hand, something as obvious and known as the 83 DDR would be a pretty easy pick especially considering how clearly the images showed the markers. But, like I said, I'm not going to bring that up.
Back to the OP's images, I see MD. I also see extremely subtle signs that may be markers, HOWEVER, the pictures are no where near clear enough to tell him one way or the other and send him on his way. My screen is clear and bright and my vision is 20/20, certainly no competition for your experimental image enhancing software, so, personally, I can't send the OP away to toss that coin based on bad photographs so thank goodness you, and others, are around to handle situations such as these. Does the OP have the big 69? Nope. Might he have an alternate DDO? I don't know.

Roy, you can't present a statement as fact if it's prefaced with a (probably).

Hope it's a great day for you all! If it isn't, make it one!

NewMember - If you don't believe me, that's fine. If you doubt that I have experience with coins, that's fine as well. I know what a doubled die looks like. I also make mistakes, like I did with your coin. Fine if you disagree with me, uruman, coop, RoyCoinBoy, and Coinfrog.
To each his own.

Alright NewMember. Just stop causing drama. Nobody needs it. You need to be nice on CCF. I'm tired of your attitude against others! You're going to get yourself in trouble if you keep it up.
