OK so I've got a 1974 Winnipeg Centennial Dollar encapsulated and in a clam shell case. It seems this coin was released in several different version. I've seen pricing for circulated, uncirculated, specimen and prooflike. How can I tell by looking at my coin which one it is? I thought specimen and prooflike were basically the same thing?
Thanks!

If it is the silver issue then it is Specimen. The nickel PL's came in pliofilm sets.

Not so fast... nickel specimen strikes also came in clamshell single cases with blue interiors, as well...

It can be confusing and I am not exactly sure if the silver one is a silver specimen, silver proof or silver prooflike?

I am leaning toward the silver one being a silver specimen ( I changed my image, hope I'm right ).

as there were proof-like ( Struck twice coins ) sets too between 1971 and 1976 which might include the one nickel specimen shown here.
I like and have collected some of these semi modern commemorative dollars and stick to the silver issues. Earlier ones were .500 silver and later .800 silver.

To top it off there is also a prestiege double dollar proof-like set with both a nickel and silver Winnipeg Dollar.

I found an old book here. Pay no attention to the prices.
At least on the unc version, I know there are varieties of the yokes on that ox inside the 100.

If it is in a clamshell, the colour
of the case will tell you which coin it is.

Black case- Silver
Blue Case - Nickel

Here's a photo. It seems I've got a silver specimen.

So what do you guys think? It's kinda hard to tell since it's encapsulated and I don't want to crack it out to take better pictures.

Also, JimmyD, what if my clamshell is burgundy? I have a 1970 Manitoba dollar in a burgundy clamshell.

Since I have a bunch of double dollar proof sets as well, it seems I've got 3 of these dollars now. :)
3 different versions?
