If their was one coin I'd ever grade, it would be this coin. I don't really plan on sending coins to get graded because of the cost but this is my most favorite coin and I'd love to get everyone's opinion on it!

Of course pictures don't do justice and I know the coin is not perfect MS-68 but it's still my favorite!

I like the toning.

It appears to be a proof coin.

Well you saved yerself a big chunk of change, that is a circulated coin, the discoloration does nothing for it's intrinsic value, "toning" is subjective and an "eye-appeal thing anyway. From those pix, circular scratches above dome may have even body-bagged a submission, grade as AU55-58, damaged, cleaned would not have made you happy after spending $40-65...sorry. On Mox's scale of eye appeal it would be a 4/10, not a fan of cleaned/naturally retoned coins. Spend time in an older Whitman folder by chance? The blue ink and insert backing when moist turn coins that pinkish blue, used to sell old folders of them.

CrazyB0, thanks for the information! I'm not the slightest informed on grading, toning, natural and cleaning etc. I found this Nickel coin roll hunting so I'm not sure if it was ever in a folder.

So many new "finds" in CRHing are pulling up "collection dumps". These are coins our illustrious relatives take out of the storage media and traipse off to the nearest CoinStar upon our demise, only caring about the cash value of stupid Gramp's coins. Either that or you got thieves dumping collections stolen and those family members needing quick cash for their "fix", whatever that may be. This happens when the older generations die off. Seems to cycle in 12-15 year periods, the "Greatest Generation", the WW2 crowd has all but gone, now the Baby Boomers are dropping like flies.A sad state of affairs, but the price of time and life moves on.

Am I the only one who recognizes this as a proof? It's kinda important, right?

If I am wrong, then I will eat only pizza rolls for two days.

Are the "rims" squared off enough to be a proof?

spruett001 , I'm with you on a proof coin . If this Nickel was found CRH I would think it wouldn't be in such pristine condition if it was an unc.

Spruett001 and John1, I believe it is a proof. I'm mostly a coin collector for "junk" silver and CRH to find it. I found the coin CRH nickels (duh) and I was really stoked when I saw it! The edges on it are really thick as you might can see in the first top picture...that's why I think it's a proof but I'm no "pro" expert on coins but it's my opinion anyway lol! And spruett, I would only eat pizza rolls for 3 days straight even if you're right, cause they're pizza rolls!!

That's the spirit! I would voluntarily go way more than two days. I like to keep it simple that way.

Did they make any SMS nickels in 1964?
