What are these "lines" below the tail feathers? Cracks, gouges

There is no listed 1885O VAM showing this.

Just found these die chips? -also in the same area- just to the side of the M on the Reverse- top of first leaf in wreath.

Hi

I see something in image #2 (besides the lines etc.)
Could you post some closeup pics. of the coins obverse,
opposite of the area in question ? Wanted to rule out or in a slight clash possibility. The small raised dots are most likely just die
chips. I have a clash posted on the same yr. coin.

Here are pics of the obverse- if there are any die clashes , I think it might be in this area for a match.

Thanks.

Hi

It's tough to pinpoint the area. I am looking at
that triangle in pic. #2 (upper left hand area of the bud)
Like I just learned recently when I posted my clash, unless it is a clash involving the lettering it really adds no premium to the coin.
I think you may have a very slight clash going on if anything, and those lines (looking as indents) as most likely just from the die.
Like I was just recently reminded of, "All Morgans are Vams"
Unfortunatley, as far I have seen, there are no top 50 or 100 vams
anyway for the 85-O
It's still fun (yeah right:) to look...

Yeah- if it isn't letters, it isn't going anywhere.

just trying to match these things up to an existing VAM can get you going-

Again- Thanks NGiles for getting me going with these things

Thanks again for your input.

Chuckster,

The lines appear to be either post mint damage, or die wear because they are recessed into the coin. I am leaning more towards die wear due to the location of the lines, however they may have been caused by someone cleaning the coin. Full Obverse and Reverse pics would be helpful in determining the overall quality of the coin.

Sorry for leading you into an addiction, some day you may want to quit, then you'll be cussing me instead of thanking me.

NEVER QUIT!!

I shot these pics over to Jack Lee- he said the small dots are probably die chips and the lines are either Planchet or Striking Marks.

I made a copy of your die-clash guide- nice tool!

If you get a chance, check out my post under New1921P Morgan VAM3AB?
after matching your guide up- look by the VEE hairline- seems like a possible inside part of the S in trust in that area.

Mr Van Allen already has this coin- for examination- I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be assigned a VAM! based on BOTH WINGS having Die gouges/polish that are visible to the naked eye and that possible S. also has a nice different die crack in knot of bow not listed.

Chuck.
