Charlton Cat. on paper money has for years had this small one paragraph headlined as Grading Tip: " 1954 Devil's Face and Modified notes normally have wavy or rippled edges, as issued, when in original uncirculated condition.
Sadly, the ripples have been pressed out on some notes in a failed attempt to "improve" them, resulting in a lower grade instead. "
This whole statement is just wrong, it leaves one with the impression that if you don't see ripples then it's been pressed that's just not right.
There were many 1954 issues that had no ripples what so ever when they entered circulation.
I've personally found in my collection that notes printed by BABN are far more prone to rippling then the CBN notes.
It would be great to hear what other collectors thought's are on this.
When buying do you require ripples on all your 1954 Banknotes?

This is a note I purchased quite a few years ago it's an excellent example of a note with strong rippling and embossing. I've always been worried that the embossing and the ripples will flatten out over time from being stored in the modern sleeves and in a binder.
Any hints on how to safely store uncirculated raw notes?

Personally I have notes that are heavily rippled
And notes that are not
My main concern is that when purchasing a raw note
To make sure it is an original note that has note been pressed
Or ironed to make it flat whereby any embossing has been
Eliminated
As for storage I use Mylar currency sleeves and always keep my notes
Upright and not laying them or stacking them on top of each other
I hope prefer to keep them in a box as opposed to a binder
That that is personal preference
I have had notes for over 50 years and they look like the day I
First got them so I can assume my method is working just fine

It is sad to have collectors show me some extremely rare notes
That they are so proud of because they are so flat because
They thought pressing them between stacks of books was
The right thing to do

I guess I was fortunate enough that when I got some of my first notes
1954 devil faces from the bank the bank manager who was
A collector told me how important it was to store my notes
Something that I tried to tell others as I became more of an avid collector
But most said who wants a note that's all wavy
Thank god I did
