Help? This token came to me in a bulk lot purchase. It is notated as Netherlands.

Bronze token, 1667.

Obv.: Crest with sailing ship at centre, fleur de lis at the top. Legend; Tuta et sine sorde.

Rev.: Family Arms. Legend; Mr VOYSIN M DES REOUs PREVOST DES MARds 3 ELon
Rest in Peace

I don't have much to add for this one.

My amateur translation of the Latin obverse legend: "Watchful and without filth".

I assume the other side is in Dutch. I'd also assume this would be a jeton.

The other side is in French, not Dutch.
This jeton must be French and not from the Netherlands.
It says: Mr. Voysin, master of the Reo(?), prevost (sort of head of justice) of the MARds (whatever it can mean)

*Laughs* Parklane, the jeton is in a little better shape than it appears in the photograph. I had to lighten it severely on my scanner to get the words to show up. It's not quite ready for pocket piece status as of yet; and I've got one already anyway!

Sap and Bart, thank you for the tidbits of information. I'll keep searching for it!

After browsing the currencymuseum.ca I saw a Franco-American token issued by the French Company of the Indies. The examples I saw weren't exact, but they were minted in 1665, whereas my piece is 1667.
There is also a jeton issued by Voysin, Prevost des Marchands, from Paris. This is the same Jeton from 1665, just with a different interpretation.

I still haven't found a date of 1667 with the inscription of Watchful, without "filth"
Thanks for the hints!

Did you ever see the movie Papillon with Dustinn Hoffman (1973), situated at Devils Island, the French Penal colony near French Guiana.. it should have been in their pockets...

Years late, but here is a link to a very similar piece in numista (dated 1664):

Great movie - have seen it many times over.. (Steve McQueen was also in it)

as for this token - I have never seen one like it before especially with a shield on both sides.
