Hello all. deen doing some roll hunting this month and came across this, I never heard of a triple RPM on the 1980 but can see it on south west bottom, thoughts on this can it be, thanks

Hi BlueDog,

I think is only die abrassion and woreness that create that triple effect. Have it in some coins too.. but is better an expert oppinion :D good luck!

You have a referenced attribution for it? Didn't think so, becuz, it ain't one, it is damaged. a straight vertica hit has taken that lower serif off. If it was moved or rotated the serif would remained pointing west.

Sure, it's tripled! If they punched it multiple times during the die annealing, with today's cameras and USB microscopes, you're going to see it. Good eye and great photos.

I'd have to agree with Crazyb0 - not an rpm in my opinion. The 1 and the 9 also took hits, the D most likely took a hit too. It also looks very shelf-like, indicative of " Machine Doubling".

The area in question is flat shelf like. If it were a RPM, then would be the same height, and be wider. Just MD altering the MM.
