I found this penny quite a few years ago and looked into it a little but never found much on it. What would you call it?

The other side looks pretty normal.

Error or not?

Thanks

@TBR, we oftentimes see coins that were glued together and then separated subsequently. This leaves a partial, backwards inscription on one or both coins, depending which coin keeps the glue. I can't tell 100% from your pics if there is an extra layer on the surface, but if there is then that is what you've got. Soaking in water and/or acetone and then picking at it with a toothpick could remove this.

Try to peel it to see if it's glue, or does it feel like metal?
