Hello, I was wondering if this looks familiar to any roman coin collectors. It seems to be a very old thin copper and looks well aged. The numerals would make 6 or 8 and fall into the Nero era . I did read a bit that Buttons on capes would sometimes be used as currency .Pretty cool find Thanks ahead for any information .

It's just a copy, not a real coin. See the reversed stamped image under the hook? May have come off a costume even as a period piece...Hollywood?

Hard to say , the edges are worn and it is way older than any hollywood decoration. but thanks .and I do doubt they would go to such detail for a silly costume you could not see close enough. No this was hand made look at the drops of copper to attach the loop.

Not looking to rain on your parade, but judging by the bubbles on Caesar's neck, this button looks cast to me. Hard for me to say how old it actually is.

Not PMD, because it is not a coin.
The button was originally made like this.

These are casting bubbles, Roman coins have raised details on both sides and are stamped copper "flans"(plugs)

I understand its not a roman stamped coinage but is most likely a roman cast copper bronze button

Here are a couple of 19th century buttons in the form of Nero sesterii, each from a different mold. Same basic idea, though.
