Just showin' I really am trying to get stuff uploaded to CCF n not just flappin' mah jaws about it.. I do have some kewl errors & varieties to share, but as you will see I've gotten what I paid for with this $20 microscope purchase..

Its onboard lights are less-than-useful for this type of photography.. Nearly everything gets either washed out or dropped into shadow sooo deep as to be unviewable -- along with this false information triggering perspective-changes as well.. What remains appears as a form of mutated alien posturization.. Not exactly condusive for when uniform perception is a must..

The '60-D SD photos are the result of attempted diffusion via materials adhesion around the 'scope's rim.. Talk about yer hungover foggy Saturday morning..?! Thirty percent loss of detail with some complete blanks sounds about right for my younger daze -- ermmm, I mean about right for this type of diffusion have-at-it.. You can see the die crack from eyebrow to hairline, but not well.. Same with the shoulder die break, but much detail is missing and you can't see the die crack from which it sprang.. You can see the second die crack but much of its detail is absent.. Ditto missing detail of the squeezin's out of the "0" die crack.. There's no full coin shots as I need to construct an extention..

The BIE ('55-D, for those curious) is wayyy much better, falling into the acceptable zone.. Problem is it's shot with a single small handheld 9-bulb LED flashlight.. In the short time it takes to get hand-and-light positioned, light intensity has dropped enough to make the photo too dark.. These little flashlights eat up three AAAs in no time at all, and for a cheap microscope those things sure are f-stop sensitive..!

Guess it's off I go to get a couple gooseneck lamps.. Totally changes methinks what I had hoped would be ease and simplicity of taking photos at my sloppy tower setup.. From what I've seen in the photography forum it doesn't appear the better quality microscopes offer an any better onboard lighting solution either, at least as far as coin photography goes.. Appears to be do it right or don't bother; there is no middle ground..

PS: Mods -- I realize this teeters on two subjects.. If you feel it needs moved...

Are you saying that on that '60-D, Lincoln has a chip on his shoulder?

The small dates with the die cracks, chips and breaks were the reason the large dates were made quickly.

Thanks E&V.. And mine as well.. I have only a couple I would consider true 'complete' or 'independent' BIEs.. The majority I have are partials, if indeed they even look like a letter.. Most are simply blobs in the right location..

Coinfrog: Appreciate the kind words.. More detailed photos to appear following lighting improvement..

Spence:

Coop: Once again ty for sharing your bountiful knowledge with we mere mortals.. Most interesting re the peripheral die clashes.. As soon as my lighting situation is resolved I'll post some die cracks etc. identical on '59s & '60s -- and possibly '58s too..
