My father, born in 1947, remembers this from his childhood. I know counterfeiting is as old as time, but just for context. He had no idea what it was and I did some digging to at least identify it roughly. Close to RIC 424? I can find very limited info on coins with this reverse image, Judaea is usually bent lower and not as tall as the captive in the left of the palm tree. The pictures are his. Thank you!

I suspect it may be a cast fake, similar to these from the fake reports.

I agree. The surface looks porous and the detail are soft.

Thanks everyone! Bob L, do you by any chance have a link to where you found those images? I tried searching. That second one looks extremely similar to my father's coin. Bummer!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Not sure about this, but if you don't have an account at Forumancientcoins set up, you may not have access to the fake reports. In any event the direct links are:

http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fa...cat=0&pos=16

In case the links don't work for you, I'm posting screen shots below. And below that is another condemned coin (a modern cast) likely from the same mold. It's from this thread (you probably won't see the images if you're not logged on): http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...opic=89704.0

One more question - a coin of this era should not stick to a magnet, correct? I've read Orichalcum could have a possible magnetic response.
