I have found several of these over the years. Thought I would ask the pro's so I can get a little more "learning. Is this the results of an over polished die and the quality control man was on vacation the day these were minted?

Yes. These were caused by an Over Polished Die to get rid of Die Clashes. http://www.error-ref.com/thinning-a...gn-elements/

Not an over polished die!
With over polished die details will be lost. The devices on this coin are struck sharply, but there are evidence of a Die Deterioration coupled with wear and tear and damage. for example the #6 of the date looks like it took a hit,#9 is flattened

Are you sure Chase007? Those letters are thinner in size and they're not normal. I respectfully disagree with you.
