Hi Guys and Gals. I have made a sale of a coin to a buyer in Spain. It is paid for through PayPal and I need to mail it out soon.

Can someone tell me which delivery services can provide me with proof of receipt by my buyer?

Also, which service will let me insure the package? At least one of the delivery services I checked will not insure coins and many other precious items. (diamonds, gold cash, etc.)

Thanks for any (quick) help you can provide.

you should try the usps website, and see how much they charge for either registered mail, or else a mailing service with tracking, .

I believe I've shipped a lightweight, letter sized registered item overseas via USPS for about $16 within the last year or two.
I think it's not so easy to find that info on their website (vs. showing up in person).

I regularly use USPS to mail out of the us and am always only able to track to that country but not to the residence-that is for Brazil so it may vary by country.

Through ebay (they give a discount) you can send a registered first class package for about $14. If you *need* signature confirmation or insurance, unfortunately the cost goes up to like $30. I think FedEx is a little cheaper.

It's riskier, but I have sent a "registered letter" containing a "gift card" overseas for about $5. So far I have only had one international package vanish.

If the value is less than $50 - just send it air mail and hope for the best.

Even with registered, that only shows until it hits the other country's postal system.

If sold through ebay, they have a special way that it can be shipped and tracked, but I've never used it and have heard it is ridiculously expensive.

I gave up trying to send to any country other than Canada and England many years ago. I was "losing" a package about one in 20 shipments, which sometimes ate my profit down to nothing. Spain was not a good country to ship to. Not as bad as Haiti (UGGG), but still rather high for the number of "lost" packages.
Rest in Peace

You may get by with a FedEx envelope, if you can get signature confirmation, possibly another parcel service as DHL and UPS but as stated, USPS Tracking only goes as far as the first receiving country. Can't even track to Canada! You take your risks by using letter size, thick/weighty envelopes are ripe for the picking, thieves known what's inside.

Ever wonder why these "heavy" letters and packagesccoming from Shanghai never seem to go missing?

I've bought several electronic gizmos from China and tracked them until I saw "Preparing for Overseas shipment (Shanghai)" on the site and then no further tracking. By accident I typed the China Post tracking # into the USPS site and discovered it was trackable within the US that way.

I might be worth a try on the inverse to see if your package is trackable, i.e. entering the USPS registered article # into the Spanish postal system tracking system. Might need to put a US prefix on it.

USPS insurance for shipments from U.S. to overseas is tricky and specific to the country shipped to. I returned an expensive item to Germany and could only get $500, the maximum available, of insurance.

Registered mail (tracking) then cheap third party insurance to protect from loss. I don'
t think you need the tracking all the way to destination.

If you print your own postage, the USPS first class package rate includes E-DELCON delivery confirmation to 43 countries, including Spain. E-DELCON is trackable online, meeting PayPal requirements for shipments under $750. First class package postage is about $13 for up to 8 ounces. E-DELCON is not available at the post office counter. First-class international packages can be insured at insurepost.com for $1.60 per $100. As of January 21, merchandise is no longer allowed at the less-expensive letter or large envelope/flats rate.

https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/immc2_022.htm

For more expensive items and packages to countries not covered by E-DELCON, USPS priority international includes both tracking and $200 insurance for about $35. Additional insurance is available. Registered mail seems to be on the way out.

Another advantage of printing your own postage online is that the USPS will come to you and pick up the items. No more standing in line at the post office! You can print postage directly from PayPal, ebay or usps.com.

Most insurers will cover "collectible coins" or "antique coins" or "numismatic collectibles" but not a shipment declared simply as "coins" (i.e. "cash money"). It is an important distinction. At insurepost, for example, you must state "collectible coins" when you insure.
