A few strikes earlier and the date would not have been discernible... Weight is normal (3.27 grams), and the coin is mint state (MS-62 Brown, in my opinion).

The difference of this not being struck through anything else (e.g., grease, cloth, etc.) is the typical orange-peel texture of being struck through a cap, and that cap being thin enough to allow design transfer into the planchet. There are some indications that the cap was beginning to crack or deform, as seen by the arcuate, raised line on the reverse.

This is my oldest struck through cap coin (well, except for a George VI obverse brockage cent I picked off ebay a few months ago).
