Some new purchases arrived this morning.
I must say it is probably the best 'bunch' of ancient relics I have ever had land on my tattered doorstep !
The last two items on the invoice were two tetrarchy folles that seemed to get ignored by the competition.
Their loss is my gain ......
Follis #1
Ę (Billon) Follis of Galerius as Cęsar
Lugdunum AD 301-3
Obv. MAXIMIANVS NOB C
Laueate cuirassed bust of Galerius left holding scepter over right shoulder
Rv. GENIO POPVLI ROMANI
Genius standing left holding patera over lighted altar and cornucopia
Letter B in field right mintmark PLG in exergue
11.74 grams 26-8mm
RIC VI 167b
Beautiful olive green color but the major reason I snagged it was I am a sucker for lefties ! Plus it has the "T Rex" hand holding the scepter !
(I actually think it is a spear but you can't really argue with the RIC)
Now that I have bothered to actually attribute the coin I realize just how rare a variety it is

Follis #2
Ę (Billon) Follis of Galerius as Cęsar
Trier AD 302-3
Obv. MAXIMIANVS NOBIL C
Laureate cuirassed bust of Galerius right
Rv. GENIO POPVLI ROMANI
Turreted Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopia
S - F in fields mint mark II TR in exergue
10.28 grams 26-8mm
RIC VI Trier 530b
By the "red" copper color I could tell it had been a bit over cleaned. But it has a cuirassed bust ! I am a sucker for those cuirassed busts (usually the London variety)

So one is copper "green" and one is copper "red"
Time to head for the kitchen sink !
After around one hour of "slaving" in the kitchen and using all the usual kitchen supplies available .......
One near XF Lugdunum cuirassed bust "lefty" follis of Galerius Cęsar

Excellent silvering

One near XF Trier cuirassed bust follis of Galerius Cęsar

Excellent patina with moderate silvering

An hour well spent
Better living through kitchen chemistry !
