I've learned a lot in the past couple of weeks since joining the community - thanks to all.

i think this might be a strike through or two or three on the reverse. See what you think.

Looks like it might be a wire brush bristle. I'm not an expert but I think that's a great find.

You mean reverse, not obverse..
I also find myself in complete agreement with chafemasterj..

Looks like coin scratches on that left wheat area. I enlarged the image and you can see the metal moving away from the indented area from a coin injury.

If this were a struck through, the metal would have been held in place and not wave away (if something damaged it by hitting it) or in the case with your coin, the line scratched into the coin left a burred rise on the outside edges of the cut. PSD

Coop, I had a feeling that they were scratches as well.

How about the one running down from the right of the O?

At least I was allowed a few short-lived seconds of joy to break the expected disappointment.

I tried to imagine how a person could move something to scratch the surface like that maintaining such a constant force, speed and direction without being redirected or deflected by the humps on the uneven surface while at the same time creating a line that appears to be smoothly flowing.

And that's why the pros are here..

I admit to being swayed by the piece between the O & F, then further talking myself into believing wire brush ends would taper in such a manner following continued heavy usage 80-some years ago..

Plus shame on me for not blowing them up for a closer look-see..
I should know better...

Still looks like PSD. Note the cut that goes around the 'O' on OF? That follows that because the device is raised. A struck through creates a void in the design, because it is stronger than the copper of the coin.
