I wasn't sure if I should've posted this in the US coins forum or the token forum, so I flipped a coin.

Found in a grab bag of coins, the cent itself still has some nice mint luster on it. I wish that Everett W. Smith had chosen to encapsulate a 1909-S VDB to use for his ad here, but this coin is nice too.

"Keep me and never go broke." Very neat way to advertise, but I have to say that giving supporters of your campaign magical wheat cents that generate wealth seems like cheating, or at least a violation of campaign finance laws.

Pretty sure back in the day there were no campaign finance laws...

The Encased Cents were made to advertise, back then politics was treated quite a bit more civilly and freely across all venues, people knew who the real enemies were...including on coin forums.

That would make a great start of a Encased Coin collection, I'm working on getting an Indian Head one now!

Cool piece. "Keep me and never go broke" is pretty common on these. I don't agree with the design though - the tips of a horseshoe are supposed to point up, so your luck won't run out.

It's a Fankhauser encasement and there is a modest collector base for those.

Even the most common Encased Cents sell for a few dollars. Yours is in excellent shape. I would keep it. There were hundreds if not thousands of varities. These were given out instead of cheap pens back then.
