Keep in mind that lathe lines have a center circular movement. Some die polishing may mimic these. But they will not be centered exactly on the die in a circular motion. Here are a couple I though were lathe lines by they are not.

Not sure what it is, but it was on the die as they leave a raised line.

Given the location and form, those lines must have been caused by the lathe. From what I remember, the reducing lathe works from the outside in, so that central area would be the last step. I wonder if the lathe was slightly mishandled after the final step and allowed a few small concentric circles to be engraved into the die.

That's my best hypothesis.

What disqualified for Mike Diamond was the line was a continuous spiral outwards. On lathe lines they are circular. Bot it happened on the die stock, and wasn't polished off before the hub process was completed. (Just like lathe lines)

Thank you da Swampster! Now you know to hold on to this, since they're out there in the wild. It's a pretty cool error coin to own.

Here are the results from the Acetone soak I did. It looks much better now and it's more lustrous.

Wicked cool. Do you have any tricks up your sleeve for getting the rest of those dark spots off?

Thank you mikem007! I could use Verdi-Care next, but I don't have any and I would have to buy it online. I'm just going to keep the dark spots on it, since I found it in circulation. I got this for face value from a circulated bankroll. It's in a 2x2 right now.

Coop is correct. They're stains. Although, not bad for a circulation find.
