@1982pennyid, from your pics, I can't tell if this mark is just on the surface (like a stain) or a groove below the surface of the field or even above the surface. This can be hard to photograph, but perhaps with the light source more to the side, you can cast a shadow showing whether it is in relief or not.

On I thought of it were a struck through piece of thread it would be inwards on the coin?

Ok yeah, I would tentatively assign this to the "struck-through" category. Worth saving in a 2x2 unless others disagree about this conclusion.
