Got this out of some BU cents recently. Pretty sure it's a stuck through something & not delaminated. Probably reaching ,but appears to look like lettering inside.

Very nice find and Struck Through error! Since you said that there might be a letter in that Struck Through, it could have been a grease plug that fell out of the die and got struck on coins. Or it could be Struck Through debris of some sort.

You mean a hard chunk of grease? Never thought of that. At the right angle on the left side is the area I question. Only thing that matches up to me is the M in unum size wise.

It could be either a lam or struck-through, and I lean toward a lamination flaw. The overall shape could be either, but the structure of the surface within the anomaly looks a lot like what is left after a peeled lam. That's my thought.

Yep, exactly. The Struck Through I was referring to is called the Dropped-Letter error. It commands a premium, since it's very dramatic and has good eye appeal. http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=5974

I see what you're saying. Is that something that happens pre or post strike? If it's post then that little piece fell out perfectly. No little tit of metal present where a peel broke off.

EV, it's definitely not that although pretty cool. About 60/40 delam/strike thru. Either way neat.

I added your image to my educational files. It shows how to tell on a coin if something is raised or incuse from an image:
