I think that is what they call these.

I have been going through a collection someone inherited. In one of the bags of coins I found a couple of these. I think it is just a slug. Maybe off an electrical box. Not a coin.

Just in case I am wrong I took a photo hoping to get more opinions.

It's weight is 6.4 grams and in non magnetic. Same thickness as a US quarter.
This-Is-Just-A-

So is my assumption correct?

Thanks...Mont.

Never used on back boxes for electrical work, galvanized steel, even in old days. Brillo pad?

Yeah, punch-outs from electrical boxes would be attracted to a magnet so you have something else.

Thanks, I learned something today. I don't quite understand the Brillo Pad part though.

Edit. It has no rim like a plank planchet does and is really smooth to the touch.

Maybe a blank from a different country? If it had a rim it would be a planchet.

It looks brass. Many years ago our shop could order blank brass rounds and ovals of different sizes so we could stamp them with information then rivet them to a piece of equipment for our future reference. This may be something similar.

Is there some lettering on this item at about 3:00?.
It looks more like bronze or copper to me, but lighting can affect the color seen in a photo.

I have seen some extremely worn coins from the 18th and 19th century, and would not rule out the possibility that it is a coin or token.
