With this sort of damage, market value perhaps 10% of catalog value for grade, if genuine.

That is two now I have seen absolutely mutilated. It's sad. Now I know there are still at least 483,998 good ones out there.

In my opinion someone would have to be a complete moron to pay over $500 for this mutilated coin .

It's actually an interesting (but expensive) conversation piece. I wonder what caused that damage. Blender? Garbage disposal?

Might be intentional, but it also looks like it circulated for quite some time after the damage was done, perhaps a hundred years ago. Guess that makes a blender or garbage disposal unlikely....
