A very rare and unique 1932 Karl Goetz medal depicting a scene in the Beer Hall Putsch where members of the SA (Brownshirts) are killed while carrying the Blutfahne (Blood Flag), all the while God / Odin looks upon them favourably. Kienast-477.

Very interesting medal. Here's a link that helped me understand some context.

I do feel uneasy about buying anything attributed to Karl Goetz since the massive sale of his original dies and hubs five years ago. Are modern copies of his work being struck from these original dies? I've seen one or two pieces that I've passed on recently, they just looked off.

Hi Al,

Yes, I did notice that a lot of medal dies were sold in a Goldberg auction a few years back. I only buy the PCGS Goetz medals, because they will attribute any newer strikes as ND or they will put the date in brackets. I do like the Goetz medals because of their depictions of historical events during the Weimar and Third Reich eras. As an econ-geek, I find this period of history fascinating.
