Anything with cheese on it is a keeper for me cx Cheese is my middle name (pretend that's cheddar popcorn)

On a serious note, it is a NASA commemorative from what I've found. According to an earlier thread, it was made at or around the time of the actual first moon landing and was just a cheap souviner, one guy mentioning that you could actually get them in gum ball machines at one point.

I've heard that they were Gumball Machine prizes in the early 70s. I have several of them in old 2x2s with a 35 cent price written on them.

Thank you for that link! Hah, I thought it was an advertisement for a dairy company or something. Being made right after the moon landing, it's a pretty cool souvenir!

They are listed in the Krause "unusual world coins" fifth edition. Look under "moon". This book does not list any further explanation though.

Glad you liked that bpoc1 ~ Nice avatar.
Here's mine
Moon-Money-Green-Cheese-Penny-Token
and what I wrote in my Exonumia album:

Quote:
NASA Moon Money "Green Cheese Penny" Commemorative Token - Coin
Probably circa 1969 around the time of the Apollo Lunar Landing.
I have read these were prizes in capsules in gumball type machines. I have yet to find out much more but thought it was a funny token.
