I came by an 1858 O Seated Liberty quite awhile back. The previous owner had the coin graded and it came back as an AU-58. Can somebody please tell me the value of this coin, because it really is a beauty. I didn't really pay that much for it though. I think it sat in the coin shop so long that the guy forgot to update the price. I paid about $50 for it. Do you tihnk I made a good deal? Also, would you please give me your opinion on if you would keep it or sell it? Thanks a lot.

Show us a picture of it, and then let us make a determination.

Coinwhiz, A lot depends on the denomination and what grading service was used. If you could post a picture it would help.

Obverse: Reverse: I believe that the company that graded the coin was PCGS. I'm not sure though.

I'd say check prices if you can make a %25 profit, then yeah sell it, if you can't then... save it. Just my 2 cents, I had 5 walkers and paid 12 for the lot and I wanted to keep them but after seeing them go for 6-8 a peice I sold them and made 31 bucks off of them. Ten to one I only sell what I get doubles of and keep the higher grade, only reason as stated is I by rolls and not individuals

If it was graded by PCGS why is it in a 2x2?

Why someone would "de-value" this particular coin and "crack it from the slab" so to speak.....is beyond me too. Nobody's ever likely to send this coin back for grading so.......well I guess some would because somebody did supposedly right ?...

An 1858-O Seated Half in AU-58 retails around $275-350 and wholesales around $200-250.
Nice buy for $50!

Okay, after what I am hearing I think I will keep it. And as to the fact that it was in a 2x2, the guy could have been lying. I'm not very good at this yet.

Yep,People rarely have a coin certified by PCGS and then pop the coin out of the slab and put it back into a flip. That would be an expensive proposition. It's a great looking Seated Half though.
