What do you think is an error or variety?

It's in really good shape except the fingerprint of course which is probably permanent now. You could try soaking it in acetone to remove. but if it's been there for a while it has etched the surface.
Check out my counterstamped Lincoln Cent collection:

Looks like a normal Lincoln Cent with a permanent fingerprint stain on the obverse. The fingerprint isn't an error. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).
Errers and Varietys.

They eat into the finish on the coin. They are permanent. Best to find a BU coin if you need one for you collection.
