Poll Question
Okay, so I am making a poll, and try to see if anyone agrees before I send James an email explaining this. I think if more people were agreeing with me, that maybe he might take the time to change this if he can. So, I think I have been on varietyvista.com for about two years now, and I just learned about this part of the website. http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...arieties.htmIf you are like me, you are thinking, well how come I missed this? I even went to the front page and look for it, click basically everything but doubled dies, till you just click on doubled dies, and there it is on the side tab! Design Varieties! Well shucks, I wish I had clicked that sooner! BUT you know why I think that happened... I am not looking for Design Varieties, while I am searching for doubled dies. I think that if this had its own tab in the home page, a lot more people would be prompted to click it, and research it. But since I am trying to find doubled dies, I wouldn't ever think to click that on the side tab. Took me about 20 minutes trying to figure out how to find design varieties. I understand that he is classifying it as date, and then look for the design variety tab. But I really think that it should have its own tab! I felt kinda stupid when I found it. But hey, if it had its own tab.... lol Maybe I might find it say if I was trying to attribute a 1988 with the reverse of a 1989, and find all that other cool stuff I have been missing out on. I am not trying to discredit his work, or make him look bad, I am giving advice to him as a variety searcher.

I never even knew about the Design Varieties page. I only knew that the Mintmark Styles page was quite difficult to locate within the VV site. I agree that more direct links should be added to the homepage.

Spruett, I didn't even know about this, until Coppergold told me about it. Coppergold decided to make a poll on this to see what we think.

I also suggest changing the title to "poll" instead of "pole".

I feel they have the right to design the site the way they see fit. I've never had that problem because I figured it out a long time ago. The doubled die boxes probably get the most traffic, so they put the most in those areas. Seemed out of place then, but got used to it.

I just look at that page and noticed there is nothing you can click on to get more info on. Why? It would be more helpful would it not? John1

Thanks coop for your input! I get what you are saying, but I also think about what John said and its just easier! Usually people only find this through word of mouth! :D Thank you for your votes! Its nice to see both sides of the story

Quote: Usually people only find this through word of mouth! I found it quite easily by just looking around the site and seeing what was there to see. When you click on a certain coinage, all the options become available. I spend a great deal of time simply reading and reading and reading.... I'll start researching something and then see something else interesting and something else interesting...and then who knows where (and on what site) I end up on. I think that "we" perhaps need to educate folks on what design varieties are (I had no clue). I mean there are the CAMS and WAMS and LWC and LMC and LSC and those are the first ones that everyone learns. My knowledge of design varieties is very limited. I do know that from time to time the master hubs are changed and minute changes are made to Abe's hair, bow tie, vest, lettering size and/or style. That was a little more than you bargained for, but there it is. I think that it should stay the way it is.. for now..who knows..

You got my yes vote. I think anything that helps to educate people should be as easy to reach as possible.
