I'll say the 12 is a Matte Proof . The 13 is not . I believe the graininess of the 1912 is a character of a Matte Proof along with the wired edge .

The 1913 is for sure. I can make out the die scratch from D in GOD to Abe's head making it a die 2 pairing.

Ok, how about the 1912? One for it being a matte proof. One for 1913 being a matte proof. But what is the sure way to tell if they are matte proof coins if you didn't have markers?

Without die markers the rims can be a good indicator. The '12 doesn't look like a matte proof based on the rim to the fields not being square enough to me.

Why is one coin worth more than the other two?

It's certainly not because the mintage number is about half of the other 2.

The answer it is because they were less of the 1909 VDB Matte proof cents. I've heard as much as 10X difference in prices. (depending on the coins themselves of course. But I didn't realize they had some with the VDB and some without VDB. So you want need to know that if you are shopping for them.

After seeing the 1912 the other day on the forum, I check to see if PCGS had any DDO cents. They didn't, but enoyed the view of the 1912.

It is a MS-66. But I wondered how the grade got that high with the mark on the nine.
