I found this Lincoln Cent during CRH. I am wonder if this is what we call "zinc rot"? Thank you every one.

But your coin looks like it was altered. So I'd save it for now until we know for sure. But with so many you tube videos, I gave up trying to out guess them.

I would say that it's Zinc Rot slowly starting to set in.

My vote is environmental damage. I've pulled coins out of my cup holder that look that way.

To me the reverse looks like it was heated with a cigarette lighter. (because of the dark color) But I'm not sure that would remove plating or not?
