In your own opinion, does a cent being red significantly raise the value to you, or do you believe how red a cent is doesn't matter as much.
For example, would an ms62rd be worth significantly more to you than an ms62bn? Or is the difference minuscule? Edited by ThreeLui 06/22/2018 03:40 am

I think some people, because of personal preference, would pay a slight premium to have some mint luster remaining. Though there's something to be said for nicely toned copper.

Do bears crap in the woods ? Yes I would say an MS-62RD copper coin would have more value than an MS-62BN . The only exception would be if the red one had little eye appeal compared to the brown one .

Quote: Do bears crap in the woods ? The question is, do ALL bears use the woods... Seriously though - red cents will always be priced higher than their RB or BN counterparts simply because there are usually less available. Care must be taken to prevent copper from toning over a 100 year period. Now as far as eye appeal of red vs brown, that's a matter of preference. I personally prefer a toned (brown / purple / etc.) Wheat cent over a red one. Look at the coins Coop posted here for example: http://goccf.com/t/322131

I actually prefer brown cents, at least for the Wheaties. Probably because most of my wheat cents are circulated, so being brown is a given.

Check out the Red versus Brown spreads on any cent minted prior to c. 1930 to see what collectors in general think!

I prefer Brown copper to Red. Quote: I think some people, because of personal preference, would pay a slight premium to have some mint luster remaining. Mint luster has very little to do with the color. You can have brown copper that still has full mint luster.

Compare actual sale prices. No comparisons.
The older the coin the more RB and Red increases in percentage value over Brown.
No real problem finding red after the 1930's.
No real problem finding RB after first decade of last century.
Serious price increases prior to those periods.

For me, I'd rather have Brown ones.
