Hi, Ive noticed alot of coins Ive been looking at of all dates are missing S in STATES and O in Of.. What causes this? What would damage coins in this manner?
The main difference between a Struck Through Grease and an over polished die is that grease fills the skinnier tip area(low point on the die) which makes the devic/letter wider than normal. Polishing removes the metal making the devices shallower, hence thinner than a normal letter.

I'll remember these two differences, when trying to determine which error my coin has.
