Is the date in the photos below doubled? I have looked at several different photos of Doubled dies on Coins and Canada and they look similar to this.

There is no doubled variety listed on Coins and Canada for the 1958 Canada Dollar. Just one with a Die Crack. So I have no photos of this coin to compare to.

The coin in question
1958-Commemorative-Dollar....-Doubled-Date?

The doubling is most prevalent in the "85" of 1858 and in the 19 of 1958

Look doubled to you?

Any and all comments welcome.

Yes, it's Machine Doubling damage.
Charlton's has it listed as Rev.-002 (Reverse Variety 2)

I agree with machine/mechanical doubling. In the nanosecond after the die strikes the planchet, the die moves incrementally (usually seen as a slight rotation) as the die lifts off the planchet. It is not classified as a striking error; rather it is just post-strike. It is due to the die being loose in the chuck/holder ... once the screws are tightened, that type of doubling stops.

Thanks all.

I was kinda thinking if I saw this on a US coin I would've dismissed it as MD. The reason I asked is it seems a lot of MD in Canadian coins seem to have a variety number attached to em.

It seems this one does too. Just not listed on Coins and Canada

Thank you for the reference number JimmyD
