Hello!

I am new to coins and this group. I have read through many post about fake coins. So let me tell you the back story on these two coins. I cleaned out estates for 14 years. I hit the mother load on coins throughout those years but I have not really put much thought into looking into them until a week ago. I now have two full crates of coins. That being said I am starting with these two coins. I think they are fakes. But I am no expert so can you please help me with these two coins. Both coins came out of an estate where the person was a hoarder and they passed away. This person had the most coins that I've ever seen in one home.

@tb, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm going to recommend to the mods that we get your thread over to the ancients section so that the right eyeballs can be looking at your coins from ancient Greece and China. You should probably include diameters and weights in this thread to help along with clearer pics. Thx.

The first coin is a copy of a Decadrachm from Syracuse if it was genuine would worth $50K or more.

The second is a copy of a Chinese cast coin, it appears to be lead.

The Chinese coin is a copy of a Ban Liang, a common coin but the Chinese will copy anything! The giveaway is that it looks too thick, and is highly uneven. The casting process used by the Chinese meant that all coins were nearly perfectly round - the only exception being semi-official or illicit castings that were not filed.

on the Syracuse coin. If you didn't find it in the ground yourself, or don't have documentation on it, just assume that it's not genuine. Nobody drops $10k-100k on a coin and then loses the sale documentation!

Thanks for moving it to the correct forum.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on both of the coins being fake. The good part of this..... they were part of a paid job. So nothing lost on my end.
