I could easily see that spread. That's a nice Doubled Die Reverse.

I was trying to get the idea across about where to look for spread on doubled dies. Too often we see so much machine doublings, that new ones look too hard for something that isn't there. So they stare at the edges of the devices. And guess what they find? Machine Doubling. So by helping them see that they look at the whole device and not the edges, they will be able to move on to the next coin that maybe something, rather than keep looking for something that isn't there. Spread means the devices are spread more than normal. Not a reduced edge of a normal device.

Thank you for this Coop. Simplifying this and other explanations to the most simple level is sometimes needed to help educate us all. The photos are great showing the tan shading. This can still be a difficult thing to see for some of us. I'm a visual person and love to see explanations/presentations in this manner. I know you had to have invested considerable time creating this. Would it be possible to place arrows from/to photo areas giving further pinpoint location of what is being described? Many thanks. Arrows look great

Very nice Coop! Even though I can see the spread without the arrows and lines, it's still great that you added lines and arrows, in order to help the starters see it better. Thank you very much Coop! I appreciate it and I love your threads as well! You are the one that helped me learn a lot of this stuff, as well as others! I can't believe how much I know now, and it's only going to be one year since I joined CCF on July 3rd.

This was a fantastic thread Coop! Can this technique be used on non clad coins as well? Does the color change happen as a result of the stretching of the silver or nickel shell and exposing the copper core?

It should be the same. But I added some lines to make it more visible.
