I've noticed these instances have increased over the last month.
Basically, I'll be on a ccf page and several redirects will occur that leads to a fake 'Microsoft alert page' with a fake women speaking with a british accent saying that I need to call an 800 number to remove a virus. And that if I don't call, my ip address will be shared with blah blah blah. The only way to get out of these popups is to restart my computer or kill my web browser in task manager.

I upgraded malwarebytes and it came with a free trial for a newer version. Malwarebytes has blocked recent occurrences but alerts me when they occur. Bobby if you want a screen shot, shoot me an email.

This sort of adware/malware is so fast paced changing that having a virus protection is almost unless. Especially if you go on high risk site ;)

MikeF, pending your OS, did you try your virus scanner and or running Malwarebytes in safe mode? Make sure the virus scanner and malware removal apps are up to date. Then startup in safe mode and scan without Internet connection.

Some spyware / malware will have its hooks in the systems startup and cannot be removed thoroughly unless the bare minimum drivers, and or DLL's are loaded.

Malwarebytes used to do a good job, but have not used lately. Often times we had to boot up in safe mode and scan. Sometimes had to use more than one removal app. Then reboot and rescan in safe mode again for good measure. Only boot up normal once it scanned clean or showed zero threats remained.

Another option is try restoring to a known good startup point. Lastly reloading and restoring the system if needed.

Recommend if you have not already done it, back up your data especially before altering the systems startup. Thanks, Doug.

I have some experience with computers and manually removing malware. I recommend you run Malwarebytes and another tool called AdwCleaner. Doug has offered sound advice.
I recall you had Sweetpacks Adware installed on your computer. This may be part of the problem if it wasn't removed properly.

Mike, Had the same...is ransomware. DO NOT ANSWER IT BACK!! Take halo's advice and rund a System Restore to a time you know you weren't having a problem, that may be up to 30-45 days ago (usually not). I did mine for a ransomware captured computer that had a temporary program installed that hijacked my laptop. It acts lick a virus and will eventually lock you out if not already. have a techie help you do the steps to start your comp in DOS and do emergency start procedures for Windows, sounds like SD can help do this or Tootallious will also, he's the one who helped me free my laptop without any real data loss, otherwise, Bend over and Kiss it goodbye! Clean it ALL OUT, even it it starts going, have it checked by a techie pro (BestBuy or shop)

The pop up sounds more like a browser hijacker than ransomware due to the fact it appears in the browser. By the way, removing a browser hijacker usually involves running MBAM and AdwCleaner. There is no need to pay any money now to have your computer fixed unless there are serious problems.
This is a common problem that can usually be fixed easily.

I get that exact redirect when I signed off my Yah-who email after half a minute quite often. I now close Yah-who immediately after I sign off and it stopped that.
Goofy stuff on that page anyway.

Today I got a new one not too long ago while viewing Meows latest find LMC rolls (Planchet flaw?)here on CCF.

I closed it promptly but as I recall it was (something)digital dot calm.
