Ohh Nooo, again a Cats hopes dashed. When ones says flaired G, what does that look like? Meow's two pennies do not have a legible initial. So anyway, those three other years just need the Wide AM to be valuable, but the 1988 d needs a Wide AM AND a flaired FG?

Meow just found this online. "On more thing, in 1988 rare alternate reverses from both the Philadelphia and Denver mints were produced where the A and the M were Wide as normal but the FG initials were close to the memorial rather than far as they should be for that year. These are 1988 coins with the transitional year reverse of 1989. This variety has sometimes been unfortunately called the 1988 Wide AM even though a Wide AM is normal for that year." So this book Meow got yesterday is wrong about 1988s. Cat tricked by book......

Yup, as the old saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat... but your being a part of this forum will help you avoid those deadly traps and help you keep all 9 lives. Keep looking! Its a real cat and mouse game trying to find scarce items, but that's what makes it fun

"Here are a couple of pics from a 1988 D that I found last week. Notice how that the G is flared? Also included is a pic to help you identify what you're seeing."
So wait now, the picture show the RARE variation a Cat should look out for? And you found some of those rare pennies last week yourself?
Thank you all for the help. That cherry pickers book Meow got yesterday, does not specify the 1988s need the FG location to match also just for that year. It does mention it, but it does not say that, that is the real key for the date. Misleading quite a bit.

Yes the pics of the cent I found are from the variety you want to look for. They say it's a rare cent.

Darn it! Meow's coin does not have initials like that. well Now Meow knows. So this is just for 88s, other years JUST need wide or narrow AMs for the rest of the variant years correct?
Thanks for sharing you knowledge.
Ooooo! Meow just noticed Meow's self portait avatar is up. Cool Beans!
Thanks all for the warm welcome here. Well, except for the two Cat haters so far.

Meow will very much hope to be able to find the genuine error to show you in the near future. Now, coin rolls await! Double dies for the Kitty!

Both RDV-005 and RDV-006 are close to the memorial base when compared against RDV-007.. Hopefully these visuals help you better see the difference you are seeking for the $$s item.. Swamp

Wow! That's a tough one to wrap Meow's furry little head around. The variations are abundant and very difficult to understand. Meow can't make heads or tails out of it. Where are all of those RDVs listed and pictured?

Don't complicate things by making it harder than necessary for finding what you seek, 'k.. There are only four reverse design variations possible within the 1988-89 interchange, the 1992 close/wide and the 1998-2000 close/wide -- the fourth being an over-polished RDV-007 that isn't in play within the boundaries of what you are looking for, which if I understand correctly is the 1989 reverse on a 1988 issuance.. For that all you have to do is find the 1989 initials styling on the reverse of a 1988 dated cent.. Simple.. That's why we all have one, except for you -- JUST KIDDING ! ! ! Swamp

Meow will keep looking, and hope for one soon. But they are pretty rare, right? And plus where Meow lives p mints are hard to find in relation to d mints. Thanks for your help. Meow is surprised how much there is to know, and also how willing everyone here is to help other collectors.
