I know people collect by city or state. But does anyone collect by county? If I get into NBNs I may take that approach, focusing on notes issued by NBs of Essex County, Massachusetts. Not as overwhelming as trying to collect a whole state, but more challenging than collecting a single town/city.

I'm sure some collectors do collect by County.
Personally I collect my city (Tampa) and state (Florida). And also cities I've lived and birth cities of my siblings.

I collected Collin County, Texas at one time. The county seat (McKinney) was not a problem. It's when I was doing the smaller towns that things got interesting. I eventually found Plano, Melissa and Nevada notes but never found a Farmersville, Frisco, Princeton or Celina note while I was attempting the project.

I do know that Farmersville notes have turned up .... but Celina, Frisco and Priceton? Never have seen one!

I just did the best I could and accepted what I found. It was fun though!

I have taken this approach as it prevents me from going on a massive buying spree.

Luckily for me, the counties I'm collecting have more than one national bank. Even if there is only one I expand to include one of each denomination or type issued.

How many NB's in the county? Would you collect one note from each NB or a type set of all notes by each NB?
