David -- is it incuse or is that a trick of the shadow..? From here it looks like the field is higher than the rim, so I'm seeing it as a fall-away rather than build-up.. Is that how it really is..? Any chance for a pix with the shadow falling right instead of left (not actually necessary, just an explaination of what I think I'm seeing will do..) Thanks..

Da Swampster, it's raised, not incused. It's not damage, caused by pushed over metal. It's a Cud, since it's raised and enters into the fields.

Got it now, thanks.. It really is quite the optical illusion.. The new photo shows light and shadow in the coin-edge ding above the "I" & "B" whereas the original doesn't, and that was enough to finally get the coin's edge and field to flip-flop for me.. Weird.. I bet some others see it that way too.. Really is worthy of inclusion in one of those "How do you perceive this whatever" brain-twisters you sometimes see in magazines..

Thank you CoinCents and da Swampster! Now you can see that it's a Cud now. The first picture was tricky though.

Quote:...you can see that it's a Cud now. The first picture was tricky... Big time tricky for sure..! Once I was able to get the rim/edge (meaning the Cud primarily) and the field to "reverse elevation" for my vision though it was easy to see the shadow is being created with light from viewer's left instead of what initially appeared to be being caused by lighting from the viewer's right.. Some things were quite deceptive until viewed in the, ahem, proper light.. Swamp

Thank you moxking for the comment and compliment! That's very nice of you. I feel that I've made a huge impact (but in a very good way) on CCF.
