This was obviously way over polished, My goodness.. I have never seen it so bad to where the die started sinking in, and looks like it started even moving metal to the side.. Look at that! Doesn't that kind of remind you of that weird 1973 D Reverse Die anomaly that no one seems to agree on? You can see whats left of the die clash between columns 3 and 4 at the top of the bay, and you can also see very slightly under the right (your right) post under the staircase the light outline of Lincolns head. But at the bottom of the third bay, in between columns 3 and 4, right below the clash mark, is where the die started to sink in, and at the very bottom is the start to that weird anomaly, and it moves into the 4th bay. Very strange.. Did the guy start to fall asleep while he was in that spot or something? sheeeesh... And look at the post on your left.. you think thats where the metal came from? LOL looks like the post was hollowed out! And above the T in Cent looks like it even started rippling? LOL man this is funny to me idk why. Lemme know what you think!! Lol I'm going to keep this one for conversation sake.

They get really bad and there are so many polished marks that you lose the design like when I get a bobble head Abe on the obverse. Thanks for sharing

Looks like Abe was almost evicted from his Memorial Building. Well it not the first time.

Your first photo shows the "why". A heavy clash only partially removed.

1983 & 1984 had a lot of clashing issues. The coin may have already been polished a couple of times and another one happened. It was probably retired before the next polishing.

Yep, it was over polished, because they were trying to remove a Die Clash.

At least I know now that the metal didn't come from the post. But where did it come from? Lol

The sad part is that it may/may not be from the same die. If the coins had mint marks, then you might be able to match them up.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Here is another one from mine. Coppergold - does yours have the die crack running from the bottom right of the memorial to the rim?
