This is the fourth iteration of this type of issue I've found with this quarter. This one seems to be more severe than the others, with the rest being in varying degrees of severity. I thought early on in my learning it was an obvious strike through and after a couple post concerning these that was the consensus I got. Now I'm not so sure. It seems a little too uniform and somewhat (clean) looking if you follow. Was just wondering what everyone else thinks. The areas affected are the water next to the boys head, on he back of his neck and where his hat and basket meet. These are spaces where the coin is missing parts of the design. Opinions welcome.

The last two pics were are from an older post of mine. The 4th is a different stage of this and the last is just a normal quarter for comparison

The die is being affected by die polishing. Thus parts of the sub field areas are being removed. What do you look for on these? The flat looks of the design on these areas. When the field areas are gone, the isolated die polishing makes the design look flat.

Note how the sub field areas look flat after polishing? That is what you are seeing on that area on your coin. A strong clash happened first. Then the dies were altered to cover this up. With the fields being abraded, the sub field areas are the next to go away. But the polishing was more isolated on these areas.
