Thanks for having me in the forum.
My first question regards this 1883 Russian coronation rouble, which was for sale recently on an online auction site. It piqued my interest because it's a lovely looking coin - but perhaps too good to be true, given that the seller didn't seem to have previous coin sales (or many sales at all). I can't give a weight or diameter, and it's probably hard to judge by a photo alone.
The coin has sold already and for a sum well over my budget so my interest is purely academic - or maybe there's some general advice for distinguishing fakes from the real thing?
Many thanks.

Looks genuine to me. The west is consistent to what I would expect.

Lets be realistic - a genuine coin is easily 200+ dollar coin unless it's a problem coin.

Sorry to disagree gx, but this is a modern copy. The photo makes seeing it tricky, but it's the same as the ones from a certain Chinese counterfeits site that cannot be mentioned here. Biggest diagnostic is that bump or clump in place of a berry near the top of the wreath. Also some minor depressions and bumps that match up.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. Amazing knowledge in this community.
As a follow-up ... the coin initially sold for about US$230 but, curiously, it was relisted a few days later. Now it has disappeared again.

I think you are right numismatic. Been out of touch and I did miss the cue. Would agree the pic on the left is not genuine. The lighting did make it difficult.

Yes the lighting and angle of the photo are deceptive and hides much of what could give it away, which I bet is exactly why the seller photographed it this way
