Have you noticed that searches on vcoins now do not return any coins under $25 unless you specifically uncheck a new filter they introduced? (It is on the left, under "Applied filters".)
I find it astonishing that they would do such a thing which is against the interests of their customers (and against the interests of any sellers who would like to sell coins under $25). Why would they keep us from seeing low-priced coins? A few days ago I did some searches on various types of Byzantine copper coins and thought they seemed high priced--none less than $25! It didn't occur to me that vcoins had applied a filter I did not want or even know about. Then, this morning, someone on a different list commented on the new filter.
If you ever use vcoins, I recommend you go there and try any search that might yield inexpensive coins. Select "Price: lowest first." If everything is $25 or more, look to the left and uncheck the filter they applied without your consent.

Yep, I followed some of the posts about this at another forum this morning. Dirty.
This practice can now be added to (1) the management's turning a blind eye to numerous customer complaints about the continuing, very obvious coating of bronze coins (and even bronze artifacts) with fake sand patinas, an obsessive practice indulged in by a notorious few dealers there, and (2) a slew of very dubious artifacts posted in the past year by one of the coin coaters and a couple other stores there. There seems to be very little, if any, oversight where antiquities are concerned, imo.
FVRIVS RVFVS recently commented in another thread about the essential meaningless of COA's. While VCoins can of course do whatever they want with their site, what makes this (the default to $25 and above) especially disturbing and hypocritical is the pretense of the VCoins' Code of Ethics, which is basically on par with certificates of authenticity.
Is the rather surreptitious setting of the default by VCoins management consistent with the Code they themselves established - a code that includes the following?:
"I will conduct my business in a professional and ethical manner"
"I will operate in a fair and honorable manner"

We should contact them an voice our disapproval, maybe if enough of us complain they would see that it wasn't a good move.

They may of headed to some complaints.
On their Applied Filters they have a Over $25 with a ?. When you hover over the ? it will say "Based on demand, we have modified our search results to not show items under $25 ... If you would like to view the items, please remove the filter". You can easily X out the filter.

Unfortunately the coin market is less about collecting for the sake of collecting (finding little gems) than about prestige. Mine is bigger than yours has morphed into I paid more than you did. You see astounding asking prices and very often buyers who just don't care about price nor do they want to "waste" an entire day looking at coins. Personally if I couldn't waste the whole day doing it ...... I don't think I would want to do it.
The only time I ever mention price when I discuss a coin I post is when the price makes the purchase a warm fuzzy experience. Like when I found an uncleaned Macrinus Sestertius for $48 ! My biggest problem is I never want to part with my 'trophies'. It's the ones I made the mistake of buying I like to see leave my sight.

Quote: "Based on demand, we have modified our search results to not show items under $25 ... If you would like to view the items, please remove the filter" I wonder who made that demand. The high-price powersellers? I was occasionally considering doing some purchases on VCoins, but I guess that's effectively impossible now - anything over $25 is way beyond my budget (I'm willing to make an exception for something with over $25 worth of precious metal, but I doubt that something like that will ever show up on VCoins with a price under, say, $60, which would be definitely over my budget either way).
