I'm a new collector and just got some 2X2 mylar Saflips. I noticed that there is a kind of iridescent rainbowy film on the flips. Is that how these flips are supposed to be? I'm just worried about harming the coins that I will be placing in them. Thanks for any wisdom anyone can send my way.
John1---thanks for the welcome. I got them from Wizard Coin---apparently manufactured by E&T Kontainer Co. I'm just trying to figure out if this rainbow iridescence is normal for mylar flips---I never used them before.
The rainbow effect is an optical effect-interference fringes is the technical term-because the two pieces of plastic are so close together. You can see if you touch the plastic the fringes move and if you separate them enough they disappear.
