Hey Guys!. I just have to tell you . I enjoy searching errors and details in all my coins. Tonight I found this one. With 2 Die chips. I found a video on youtube (2012 P ALASKA State Quarter UFO Cud MINT ERROR ON TOP OF HILL TOP REVERSE) and mine is the same one... Any info about that theory? Should I keep it?

Good Morning and

I am not familiar with the coin you mentioned above to compare it to. But, you have die chips. A Cud will always include part of the rim, which your does not. However, yours looks like a little eye on top of the mountain there

Many newbies including myself seem to start off with the notion that die chips are Cuds. They are different and more often than not a Cud is substantially larger than a die chip and as mentioned above will alway include some part of the rim of the coin.

Here is a link to some Cuds that have been discovered

Happy hunting.

Note the height? That is how much of a void the die has. Die breakdown. Not a retirement issue or collector interest.

It's a die chip, not a Cud. I tend to not watch the Youtube coin videos as they seem to over-hype errors that have little to no value.

Those are called Die Chips, not Cuds. They are different. A Cud involves the rim, and some of the fields as well. You need to stop watching those YouTube videos. There's a lot of uneducated coin collecters and has false incorrect information. They often cause internet hype as well for errors that don't have premiums. Use CCF instead of YouTube.

The difference? Calling it a Die Cud instead of calling it a die chip on auction makes you think your buying a luxury car for that price and getting a Smart Car instead. So people look up the price for a Cud, and get nothing in return for the coin they thought would be valuable.

I would like to add one more thing to this thread. Your coin also shows Machine Doubling on the incused devices. Instead of normally being reduced in size, it's enlarged in size. Many people often mistake Machine Doubling on incused devices for genuine Doubled Dies. About 70 percent of ATB Quarters that Coop examine out of 100 ATB Quarters, show Machine Doubling on the incused devices.
