I found this in my change the other day. It has a goldish tint with some green-bluish toning. I would like to consult the experts on this one. Let me know if you guys want an obverse pic. Thanks!

numismaniac64,

I don't think the fine folks here are ignoring you, it's just very hard to determine the reason for that toning with the pictures provided. Clads can turn all shades of colors due to contact with chemicals or other environmental factors. I metal detect and most of the clad I find is brownish/black and a few resemble your coin. About the only thing that would make this collectable is if the coin was missing the clad layer and this doesn't appear to be the case in your example.

Now that I've started the ball rolling, others may offer their opinions.

p.s. - you have provided a pic of the "obverse", a reverse photo is missing.

Hi,
My opinion is the same as yours....it is difficult to tell based upon the picture. We would be happy to help. perhaps you can try to take some shots with a little better lighting so that the color of the coin becomes more apparent.

Thanks,
Bill

Here is a couple of better pics. H have one of the obverse with a regular quarter and the reverse that shows a little of the toning. I hope this works for you guys.

Hi,
I am not trying to frustrate you :-) but the pictures still do not give me an ability see what's what on your coin. You can see a general difference in color but that's it.

Does your camera have a "Macro" setting? You can try that. Also, if you fool with blocking the flash a little bit, you can get pictures using a flash that will give a more accurate color of the coin.

If this is a picture using a web-cam or a phone, for example...it might not be easy to get the kind of picture needed.

Thanks,
Bill

I had purchased a few of the square tubes to store quarters in (They are the soft white tubes) and then bought a box of the harder coin safe tubes for storing quarters in. After a couple of years on the end coins of the soft tubes suffered a hazing color to them. I'm suspecting PVC in the plastic on the softer tubes. I've looked at the softer ones on Cents and they don't seem to haze a fast as the quarters. So I'm not buying any more of the soft square tubes because of the damage they create on coins. Just a heads up that I noticed.

I'm leaning towards gold plated but the pictures are still too small to say for certain.
