I have this 1938 Wheat and it looks like there used to be a "S" where the mint mark belongs. Any ideas?

Rocky, can't see any damage from a hit or file lines from if being tampered with. What I think you have here is just a Philly coin with corrosion under the date. Just an opinion.

There's no mintmark on the coin, but it is a class 6 doubled die obverse.

Maybe someone took the S off and glued it onto a 1909 lincoln?
