I've always enjoyed my 1981 copy of "The Encyclopedia of United States Silver & Gold Commemorative Coins", commonly known as "Swiatek-Breen". Loaded with information and photos, it has been a standard reference since then. The "Investment Section" proved to be fallible to a remarkable extent as I thumbed through it for the first time in awhile ... predictions : by 1990, a Cincinnati Half Dollar Type coin was to have cost $4200.00 in MS65. The current cost for a PCGS MS65 is $450. According to the Rule of 72, at 3% interest that 1990 coin would be about $8500.00 now. The 1925 Ft. Vancouver was pegged for 1990 at $17,000 in MS65. It's now $650 ... the list continues, most with similar optimism. I'm glad the predictions are so far off ; I wouldn't collect them at those prices.

And the market for just about anything has ups and downs over time. But those predictions are nuts. :)

There are some people that make predictions about everything. They know that if they make a thousand of them, some possibly could come true.
