Hi all

When My gran died in 2000 I had the bag of coins that I always played with as a child. Unfortuately half of them had, shall we say disapeared? But I stored the rest. Due to economics and a discussion about money I have finally started to catalog what there is. I have been investigating on the internet about the Penny's. There are some others of interest but I came up with this, What may be a 1909 F169 penny. Now I have looked at pictures on the net and cannot determin if it is.

The sea looks more detailed
The date font looks slightly different (I have another 1909 penny)
Unfortunately due to wear I cannot see if the 1 is above a dot

I have taken loads of photos, this is the best

Any opinions

I also have an 1870, 1882H, 1903 and 1922 which may be of interest later

I am not a collector - just senamentality

I had no idea what an F169 was, so I googled "F169 penny" and the only two sites to come up were this very thread, and this page which shows the distinguishing features of this variety. It also states that less than 10 F169's have been discovered, so the chances are against you.

The severe rim wear is disappointing, as it seems to be the key diagnostic of the variety. Without it, I can't be sure either way. If the "date font looks slightly different", it could simply be because it's more heavily worn. I couldn't confidently tell the difference myself, just looking at the shapes of the numbers.

The only other thing to look at is the ocean; apparently on the F169, the "waves are more detailed". I'd suggest getting hi-res scans or pictures of the ocean section of all your 1909 coins, and putting them side-by-side. If the wave shapes are different in ways that can't be explained by wear, worn dies, etc, then you might be onto something. But I wouldn't get my hopes too high.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thanks sap

Here is both my coins side by side.

Left is less worn in the sea area and date

Right is more worn but shows more detial and if you look at the 1 buttom left there seems to a gap which is different to the left.

The nines seem to attach back (circular bit)lower on the right hand coin.

Could someone look at their 1909 penny's to see if it is more detialed
